History
Wahaika is a striking weapon or club curved at the top like an English bull-hook and is common in both wood and bone.
It usually has a small ornate figure carved on the inside edge of the blade just above the handle on the hollow side of the weapon.
On the other side it is sometimes notched like the Kotiate.
This club is much used in dances as a weapon to brandish and is often elaborately carved.
Only New Zealand native timbers are used for carvings, usually kauri.
